Pontiac 4340 Forged Crankshafts

Scat is now offering 4340 forged Pontiac crankshafts as well.  We primarily use Scat Pontiac Crankshafts in our engine builds now.  We have built and dynoed multiple combinations with these crankshafts and are very pleased with their quality.  We recommend these crankshafts for applications making 600 - 1400 Horsepower.

The Pro-Sport line of Pontiac forged cranks are made from AMS spec 6414, 4340 non-twist drop forged,  chrome molly steel.  They are nitride hardened at 1625F degrees.  

The forged Pontiac crankshafts pictured here are the first ones we received and tested.  The forged crankshaft pictured is the actual 4.25 inch stroke forging and was installed in the MR-1 block it is sitting next to for testing.    The 505 cid engine made 850 hp and 716 ft lbs of torque.  We have also sent material to independent labs / metallurgists  for testing as well.  These cranks are available if both 4.25 and 4.50" strokes,  3" main journals and BBC rod journals.

Our first 4.50" Pontiac forged crank was installed in our 540 cid Tin Indian Performance Rear Engine Dragster power plant.  That engine made 950 hp and 763 ft lbs of torque with a set of KRE High Ports and a single 4 bbl carburetor.  Car has gone a best of 7.50 @ 175 mph!

TESTING of our 4340 forged Pontiac Crankshafts

Initial testing of our forged cranks has gone very well.  The material has been tested and verified with and independent lab and initially 2 cranks were tested in 2 different engines.

Engine #1

540 cid MR-1 Pontiac Block, 4.50" stroke forged crank made 950 HP and 763 ft lbs of torque with KRE High Port cylinder heads, a SINGLE 1250 Dominator Carb and Victor intake manifold on GAS!!  This engine has been installed in our Rear Engine Dragster for this season.

Engine #2

505 cid MR-1 Pontiac block, 4.25" stroke forged crank made 850 HP and 717 ft lbs of torque with standard pushrod location KRE High Port cylinder heads, a SINGLE 1250 Dominator carb and Victor intake manifold on GAS!!

After the GAS pulls we added the Ron's Flying Toilet injection system and the Alky and headed to the track.  The engine was installed in our 1966 GTO and was tested at the 2007 Pontiacs in the Park event held @ Virginia Motor Sports Park.

The car ran low 9's all weekend and ran a best of 9.17 @ 144.45 mph!

Need a Billet Pontiac Crankshaft?

Crower custom billet crankshafts are machined from 4340 billet nitrited steel.  These cranks can be made for 3.25" or 3.00" main journals with strokes up to 5.00"!  Any rod size and any journal size.

ARP Pontiac Crankshaft Bolt and Washer

As the crankshaft flexes, the damper absorbs incredible amounts of energy. These damper bolt kits from ARP will ensure that your balancer is locked into position. They feature a 1/4 in. thick wide-area washer and an extra tall 12-point head that accepts a deep socket to eliminate the fear of stripping the head.
